Wet Chemical Analysis

EES-1 has a state-of-the-art laboratory for the analysis of fluids and solids using wet chemical techniques.

Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Emission Spectrometer. Leeman Model PS1000UV sequential, automated. See Table N for analytes and detection limits.

Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer with Graphite Furnace (GFAA). Perkin Elmer Model 5500 (AA) with automated Model 500 Graphite Furnace and Model MHS-10 Hg/Hydride Generator. See Table N for analytes and detection limits.

Ion-Liquid Chromatograph (IC). Dionex Model 4500i with Dionex Conductivity, ultraviolet (UV)-Vis, and fluorescence detectors, automated. See Table N for analytes and detection limits.

High-Pressure Liquid Chromatograph. Dionex Model 4000i with Waters Model 490E Programmable Multiwavelength UV-Vis detector, setup for the analysis of low-level organics in water, especially trace levels of explosives such as HMX, RDX, TNT, and PETN.

Automatic Titrator. Mettler Model DL25, endpoint seeking, for the determination of CO3=, HCO3-, and OH-, automated.

Gas Chromatographs. Two Perkin Elmer Model 8400 systems, setup for the determination of permanent gases, with a thermal conductivity detector and a unique vacuum sample injection system for samples at pressures below atmospheric.

Gas Chromatograph. SRI Model 8610, with flame ionization and nitrogen/phosphorus detector, setup for the analysis of volatile organics in water.

pH/voltmeter. Orion Model 811, with pH and selective ion electrode for F-, NH4+, ORP, CN-, dissolved O2, S=, and CO2.

Conductivity Meter. Orion Model 160, four-electrode cell with range of 0.00 µS/cm to 1999 mS/cm.
